About this package

Anaemia in pregnancy is common and affects both mother and baby, but its cause varies. The blood count and peripheral smear show the type of anaemia, iron studies show iron stores and transport, and folic acid and vitamin B12 identify the other usual causes. Vitamin D and the thyroid profile are added because both are often abnormal in pregnancy and influence the baby's development. Results guide your gynaecologist in choosing treatment and dose.

An advanced pregnancy anaemia panel: iron studies, folic acid, B12, vitamin D, thyroid profile, peripheral smear and a blood count.

What does this package cover?

The 7 tests are grouped into 5 health areas:

Blood count & inflammation 1 test

Red cells, white cells and platelets, blood group, and general inflammation markers.

  • Complete Blood Count (CBC)

RBC count, haemoglobin, haematocrit, WBC count with differential (neutrophils, lymphocytes, monocytes, eosinophils, basophils), platelet count, and red-cell indices (MCV, MCH, MCHC).

Iron & anaemia 1 test

Iron stores and red-cell production - the commonest causes of anaemia and tiredness.

  • Iron Studies

Serum iron, TIBC, UIBC (unsaturated iron-binding capacity), transferrin saturation percentage, and ferritin (the body’s iron-storage protein).

Thyroid 1 test

Thyroid hormones and antibodies - an under- or over-active thyroid affects weight, energy, mood and heart rate.

  • Thyroid Profile (T3, T4, TSH)

Total/Free T3 (triiodothyronine), Total/Free T4 (thyroxine), and TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone, produced by the pituitary gland to regulate the thyroid).

Vitamins, bone & minerals 3 tests

Vitamin D, B12, folate and the minerals and hormones that keep bones and nerves healthy.

  • Folic acid

The concentration of folate in the blood.

  • Vitamin B12

    Serum vitamin B12 (cobalamin) concentration.

  • Vitamin D (25-OH)

25-hydroxyvitamin D (the combined D2 + D3 form), which is the most accurate indicator of overall vitamin D status in the body.

Other tests 1 test

Additional tests included in this package.

  • Peripheral blood smear (PBS)

Peripheral blood smear (PBS) is a blood test. Peripheral blood smear (PBS) is used in the work-up of anaemia to understand blood-cell production and iron status.

7 tests included (37 parameters)

Why consider this package?

  • 7 laboratory investigations in one booking
  • Looks at 5 health areas together, not in isolation
  • All samples collected in a single home visit
  • Costs ₹244 less than booking the tests separately
  • Useful for preventive screening, or when your doctor wants these tests together
  • Pathologist-reviewed reports shared online

Who is this package for?

Designed for

Women

Age group

18-45 years

Purpose

Health screening

Pregnant women with tiredness, pallor, breathlessness, a low haemoglobin, or a vegetarian diet.

How often should you get it done?

Each trimester, or as your gynaecologist advises.

Not everyone needs every test. Whether this package suits you depends on your age, symptoms, family history and any ongoing treatment - your doctor can advise.

What can you learn from this package?

The package can provide information about:

  • Blood count & inflammation - Complete Blood Count (CBC)
  • Iron & anaemia - Iron Studies
  • Thyroid - Thyroid Profile (T3, T4, TSH)
  • Vitamins, bone & minerals - Folic acid, Vitamin B12 and Vitamin D (25-OH)
  • Other tests - Peripheral blood smear (PBS)

A package gives individual results for each test - it does not diagnose disease by itself.

How to prepare

  • Fast for 8 to 10 hours before the sample - plain water is allowed. An early-morning slot makes this easier.
  • Drink water as usual, and avoid alcohol and strenuous exercise for 24 hours before.
  • Take your regular medicines unless your doctor advises otherwise, and tell the phlebotomist what you take.
  • Wear a loose-sleeved top so the blood sample can be collected easily.

Understanding your package report

Your report lists the result of each test separately, with its own unit and reference range. Values outside the range are highlighted.

There is no single overall "health score" - each result is read on its own and then together with the others. One out-of-range value is not a diagnosis, and a normal report does not guarantee you are completely healthy.

Share the report with your doctor, who will interpret it with your symptoms and history. Call us if you need help reading it.

Frequently asked questions

How low can haemoglobin safely be in pregnancy?

Below about 11 g/dL is considered anaemia in pregnancy. Your doctor treats it earlier rather than later.

Why test folic acid in pregnancy?

It is essential for the baby's neural tube and for making red cells, and a shortfall can cause anaemia in the mother.

How should I prepare?

Fast for eight to ten hours with water allowed, and skip iron tablets on the morning of the test.
