If you only want the essentials, this trio is where most doctors would start. The blood count shows whether haemoglobin is low and how the red cells look. Ferritin reveals iron stores, which fall long before haemoglobin does, and vitamin B12 is checked because its deficiency is common and affects both blood and nerves. It will not explain every anaemia, but it identifies the two most frequent causes cheaply and quickly. If the results are normal and you still feel unwell, your doctor can move up to a standard or advanced panel, which look further.

Iron stores and red-cell production - the commonest causes of anaemia and tiredness.
Ferritin is a blood test. Ferritin checks a vitamin or nutrient level so any deficiency can be identified and treated by your doctor.
Vitamins, bone & minerals 1 test
Vitamin D, B12, folate and the minerals and hormones that keep bones and nerves healthy.
