This panel takes the basic trio of blood count, ferritin and B12 and adds folic acid and a peripheral smear. Folic acid completes the nutrient set that red cell production depends on, and the smear lets a pathologist see the cells directly: their size, colour and shape. The smear is what makes this panel more informative than the basic one. Small pale cells point toward iron lack or thalassaemia trait, while large cells point toward B12 or folate deficiency. The combination often explains a low haemoglobin without further tests, and it does not require fasting.

RBC count, haemoglobin, haematocrit, WBC count with differential (neutrophils, lymphocytes, monocytes, eosinophils, basophils), platelet count, and red-cell indices (MCV, MCH, MCHC).
Iron & anaemia 1 test
Iron stores and red-cell production - the commonest causes of anaemia and tiredness.
Ferritin is a blood test. Ferritin checks a vitamin or nutrient level so any deficiency can be identified and treated by your doctor.
Vitamins, bone & minerals 2 tests
Vitamin D, B12, folate and the minerals and hormones that keep bones and nerves healthy.
